What is human trafficking?
Trafficking in persons is modern-day slavery, involving victims who are forced, defrauded or coerced into labor or sexual exploitation. Annually, about one million people, mostly women and children, are trafficked across national borders. That is in addition to the millions trafficked within their own countries. Traffickers generate billions of dollars in profits every year while victimizing millions of people around the globe.
* The average age of victims is 11-14.
* Approximately 80% of victims are female, with 70% of those females trafficked into the commercial sex industry.
* After drug dealing, human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry worldwide reaching $32 billion annually.
* Sex trafficking is an engine of the global AIDS epidemic.
* By 2010, sex trafficking will be the number one crime worldwide.
Trafficked persons are forced or coerced into labor or sexual exploitation. Under international law, all children who are commercially sexually exploited are considered trafficking victims, even if no force or coercion is used. Sex trafficking is one of the most lucrative sectors of the trade in people, and involves sexual exploitation in prostitution or pornography, bride trafficking, and commercial sexual abuse of children.

Purse of a Hope was set forth in 2007 to provide aftercare for women and children exploited in the commercial sex industry.

Almost all exploited girls lack the capacity to change their circumstances, yet they’re desperate for the opportunity to have a greater dignity and purpose restored in their lives. Our rehabilitation residence, Total Impact House, is the perfect example of what can happen when vulnerable girls are given that opportunity. This program provides comprehensive and ongoing support to meet the complex needs of our beneficiaries. It includes: a nurturing, family-like environment, individual and group counseling, Bible study and prayer, creative therapy such as dance and drama and writing, and formal education and/or vocational training. Purse of Hope is committed to helping girls and women rebuild destroyed lives. Our goal is to equip them with the life skills necessary for self-sustainability while helping to heal the lingering wounds of abuse, poverty, and exploitation.
