My daughter is currently in the 3rd grade. This year is especially monumental since this is the first year children are required to read, comprehend and answer all test questions independently. For adults this may not seem so daunting but for students this is a huge responsibility. Students with lower reading levels will not do as well as students who excel in reading. Now it's more important than ever to have children reading and increasing their reading levels.
For us the best way to get my daughter reading is by offering a variety of books she is interested in. Reading anything is better than reading nothing. Every month she comes home excited with a Scholastic catalog and has her favorite books circled. I love ordering through Scholastic. Not only does it help my daughters school but it's the same company my mother ordered books for me from when I was a kid.

Only at Wal-mart will you find specially marked packages of Kellogg's products that contain a code, codes can be entered and redeemed for books on the Scholastic website. Two Kellogg's products can score you a $5 coupon! Even better there is no limit to the number of codes you can enter and the redemption period doesn't end until 7/12/11! That's enough to keep your child reading all school year!
